Module 3: Abnormal 4-chamber view
Overview
- More than 60% of major congenital heart malformations are associated with an abnormal 4-chamber view. It is therefore the most important view to image perfectly and analyze correctly
- In this section the 4-chamber view abnormalities are presented systematically, with reference to the modes of analysis: size, position, structure and function
- Ultrasound diagnosis is about pattern recognition – the ability to distinguish a normal from an abnormal pattern. If you can recognise an abnormal appearance and describe accurately why it is different from normal, you can reach the correct diagnosis, and from that, an idea of prognosis
