Abnormal 4-chamber view
Overview
- More than 60% of major congenital heart malformations are associated with an abnormal 4-chamber view. It is therefore the most important view to image perfectly and analyze correctly
- Some abnormalities of size, position, structure and function are shown here
- Ultrasound diagnosis is about pattern recognition – the ability to distinguish a normal from an abnormal pattern. The important role of the primary screening ultrasonographer is to recognise an abnormal appearance. Ideally, for your own interest, you should also try to describe why, or in what way, it looks different from normal.
