Accreta placentation

Ultrasound signs: Uterovesical hypervascularity and bridging vessels

  • Uterovesical hypervascularity and bridging vessels result from excessive dilatation of the uteroplacental circulation and includes spiral, radial and arcuate arteries
  • Hypervascularisation within or under the placental bed is found in about 80% of cases of placenta increta and 75% of cases of placenta percreta
  • Bridging vessels are seen as color Doppler signals arising in the myometrium and crossing the uterine wall into the bladder. These are actually dilated vessels within the peritoneum between the bladder and uterus. These vessels don’t cross the uterine serosa or penetrate the bladder wall. This is not an evidence of placenta percreta
